Danielle Wood

former CEO, Grattan Institute

Danielle Wood is Chair of the Productivity Commission, having commenced her five-year term in November 2023. A respected economist and policy leader, Danielle brings extensive experience across government, academia, and economic consulting. Prior to her current role, she was CEO of the Grattan Institute, where she also led the Budgets and Government Program and played a central role in shaping evidence-based policy discussions on economic reform and fiscal responsibility.


Earlier in her career, Danielle held senior positions at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and NERA Economic Consulting, and began as a graduate at the Productivity Commission. Her expertise has been sought across multiple advisory bodies, including the Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce, the Parliamentary Budget Office Expert Advisory Committee, and Jobs and Skills Australia. She is a past President of the Economic Society of Australia, co-founder of the Women in Economics Network, and holds multiple degrees in economics and competition law from the Universities of Adelaide and Melbourne.


Danielle’s role on the Advisory Panel is a natural extension of her commitment to inclusive, well-informed public policy. Her sharp analytical lens and deep understanding of Australia’s economic landscape offer a vital contribution to discussions shaping the country’s future.
